Frances Hodgkins: Paintings, Gouaches and Drawings / 26 March - 17 April 2010
John Leech Gallery has actively promoted, exhibited and sold Frances Hodgkins' work for the past twenty-five years and is proud to present this collection of twelve works by one of our most famous woman artists.
These works, dating from 1921 to 1941, have come together from private collections in the United Kingdom, America and New Zealand and demonstrate Hodgkins' talent and individual style.
From the assuredness of the drawing titled Cinema to the major oil in the exhibition The Weir - Bradford-on-Tone one can sense the fierce passion and drive that fuelled Hodgkins through her dynamic career spanning five decades. We are also fortunate to be able to include in this exhibition the fine portrait of Arthur Lett Haines, seated, sleeping in his tie and jacket. Arthur Lett Haines, and Cedric Morris, were not only good friends of Hodgkins but admirers of her work and influential in introducing her to the wider London arts community including the Seven and Five Society.
This exhibition is accompanied by a full colour catalogue available for $10. For more information please contact the gallery.
